For the life of me I can't get the select/modify option to work. This really hinders my work and sometimes I just have to quite my current project because I can't go any further. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

You need to select what you want to modify using the lasso, marquee tools or magic wand.

you have to actuelly select part of the piece to modify it. Also, i think you are misunderstanding the meaning of modify. That modify means that it can modify the selection you make, meaning the dotted line that appears when you select something. It will not actually change your piece. If you want to transform your piece go to edit>transform and select something there like free transform or warp or something. Select>modify is only for when you have that dotted marquee around something...

oh, and if you want to select something to use modify to test it out or whatever, just hold down control and click on the layer you want to select in the layers pallette

Hey guys, thanks for the quick response. I've tried cntrl/click on my specific layer several times but it seems like nothing is being chosen or actived per say. Let me try this again.

This worked for me. I'm relatively new at photoshop but somehow I never come around to using the magic wand. Big ups to the both of you for your help.
