Need advice badly!! PSP on the move... - PSP Forum

Hi.. I thought I'd better get some advice on buying my first PSP. This is what I want to do with it...

I'll be doing a lot of travelling around Asia etc and want to be able to browse the internet via Wi-Fi on someone elses connection while I'm away, as there are always lots around, so what do I need to do this. What version FW would you recommend? Do I need WiFi Max adaptor?

And I also want to play downloaded games etc can you do this on FW > 2.0?

What size card would you recommend as a minimum for watching movies transferring games etc?

Also I'm on a Mac laptop does that make it worse??

No problem about the questions, its what were here for.

Most PSP's are shipping with 2.5 FW, I think. But if you hunted on ebay, or even on here, you can find one with a lower FW. Thats if you want homebrew.

You only need the WiFi Max Adaptor if you want to connect to the internet from your computer, not if your going to steal someone elses. lol.

You can play some downloaded games on 2.0, but if you really want to do that you will need 1.5, i think. But if you DO get 1.5 there will be no web browser so you will have to download a custom one.

If you are going for the movies angle I would get a 2gb memory stick pro duo or duo.

I imagine the Mac doesn't matter, you should still be able to attach the usb cable and connect up the PSP. But you wont get the same variety of converters etc.

So there isn't currently a way to browse whilst you're on the streets then?? How come it would work with my wireless connection at home? Seems a bit odd!!

Too good to be true I guess.....

edit: Think I misunderstood.. lol... so I don't need a wi-fi max adaptor at all I can just logon to a hotspot anyway.... hella cool!!! Wouldn't the adaptor give me better reach and speed though???

The adapter DOES NOT plug into the PSP, it plugs into the computer, then your PSP connects to the internet through the adapter.

Theres no reason why you cant connect to a hotspot on the streets. just don't move out of range.

Some hotspots may need whats called a WEP key, or you might have to pay for the connection.

Dont get the WiFi max it sucks just spend the extra like $5 and by a real router (for when ur at home)

Think I'll give wi-fi a miss for now...

still confused as to how PSP works, does it have an internal memory buffer or does it play movies and games straight from the disc or memory stick??

if u ever come across a WEP key u can just put 26 0's as the password and it will work.

to the above post... are u serious? anyways wi-fi can be accessed anywhere that u have a connection as long as there is no WEP key. No need to buy extra stuff. Also a 1 gb mem stick will be fine but u will only be able to fit 2 movies at one time and some games are over 1 gb so ya... also i think that a psp above 2.0 isnt worth it but if u want to play GTA and Socom then get a 2.0 and downgrade/upgrade when the need arises. Also to your new question you CAN buy UMDs to play games and movies and such but dling them is better as u can have more variety and if u have dvds u can easily convert them to mp4 to play on the psp.

ANYWAYS, good luck on your purchase...
