Hi all. I'm not gonna waste people's time kissing butts, so if its alright, I'm gonna get right to the issue I have. I tried another forum, and I didn't get any answers that could help. What I'm gonna do, instead of re-type, is just cnut and paste. Please excuse my laziness.
Me: Up until last night, I had no problem transferring files to my PSP. Any file, regardless of size (provided mem stick had the room), in any folder. It acted as any flash mem or USB mem should act. Now, whenever I try to move any file over, regardless of size, the transfer will freeze up, and tell me that the specified file cannot be found. Then, when I click the 'OK' on the warning window, the window that has the contents of my PSP closes out. I can re-access it by going to my PSP, backing out of USB mode, then restarting it. Often, the file will be half-moved, or corrupted. For example, a picture will be askew/chopped up. So far, only -some- game saves can be moved over, and a few pictures. But, music will no longer transfer, and if I try to do more then 1 small file at a time, it will freeze. In all honesty, the chance of a small file (60kb) being succesfully moved is russian rhullette.
Alright! There ya go. I have tried rebooting the PC, doing a full reboot of the PSP (not just going into sleep mode), and I have tried switching memory sticks, just to see if the stick was corrupted. Nothing helps.
Any ideas are welcome. I'm ready to just return the PSP as possible defected, though I'm not sure how to accuratly test this.
Mod: That's an odd problem. You still have a lot of things to rule out, though, before you go returning your PSP.
Have you tried:
Formatting the Memory Stick? Both of them?
Using a different USB cable?
Using a different USB port?
Transferring files from a different computer? A different hard drive on your computer?
Downloading a file to the Memory Stick through the PSP's browser?
Writing to the Memory Stick with something like a USB card reader, rather than the PSP?
Me: Good things to consider.. Well, yes, I have reformatted both of them, both using the PSP and the PC, in various combinations. I've swapped ports, and cables, but have no tried a different PC.
I'll check up on this in the next hour, and get back to you with the results. Thanks much!
Mod: Also, if you have a friend with a PSP, you may want to borrow theirs and try writing to your Memory Sticks.
Me: Figured out the problem. Turns out, something is messed up with the PC. Here's what I did:
I copied the entire contents of the PSP mem stick onto my harddrive, and tried to re-copy them onto the stick. The usual problem ensues. So, I burned the files I copied onto a CD, brought the CD to another comp, and that one could transfer the files as easily as I could before, no problems with large files or multiple files.
I thought of what I did before this happened, and I remember installing a PSP video converterright before this started happening. It could be the problem; if it is, even though I already un-installed it, I might have to exchange my laptop for a new one. (You see, this is a work laptop. If anything goes wrong, or I just say its messed up, they toss me a new one just like it.

)
I cannot remember the name of the video converter, but it wasn't PSPV9. I think it was ImToo, or one different one.
Problem solved, thanks for helping out with this. If you'd like any more details on this to help out others, or to see if there could be a similar situation on other peoples' comp, lemme know.
Me: *UPDATE*
For some reason, now other computers are not being able to transfer files. I did a virus scan on my PSP for all currently known PC viruses, in case one jumped on during a USB file transfer, and nothing was found. Now, there is probobly a .01% that a virus is on it that couldn't be found, but that is negligable. After completing a virus scan of my laptop, nothing came up. Next, I did a scan of possible driver updates for all my USB ports, or anything else that could effect it. Turns out, in the bowels of my HD, there was an update. After updating all of USB ports, and doing one more final virus scan, nothing.
I'm flat out of ideas. Does anyone have anything?
There ya have it. I again apologize for the long post, but I've been trying to fix this for a while. OK, a week or two. But, I just recieved my 2GB duo, and I can't freakin use it! Any suggestions?
