For those that don't yet know, "ad hoc" refers to local wireless play while "infrastructure" refers to (officially supported) online play.

Anyway, on the back of the boxes for Ridge Racer and Darkstalkers, it says "Wi-Fi compatible (ad hoc/infrastructure)." From the instructions, as well as available internet information, it does not appear that either game offers infrastructure play.

According to people on Gamespot forums, a namco representative has said the RR has infrastructure, but not online multiplayer with more info to come later. It is speculated that this could refer to online scoreboards or downloadable content.

Just wanted to warn people, and see if anyone on here had any additional information.

And I got all excited on the ride back from BB when I saw the back of that Darkstalkers box, too.

EDIT: As noted below, my initial understanding was incorrect. The term "infrastructure," is being used to refer to wireless LAN play in addition to online play.

Damn. I got excited looking at the back of Ridge Racer too. Oh well. Downloadable content would be cool though.

i was going to get wipeout but it doesnt have infrastructure...

i did see nfl street 2 had it though

they could also throw out an update that allows you to play online well it's all good you can always do tunneling.

I'm not sure if the PSP has any online enabled games yet... none of them have the equivalent of the PS2's 'online enabled' logo (if there is one for the PSP). However it may simply be referring to supporting wireless access point play. I played Wipeout in infrastructure mode with a few friends, but that doesn't change the fact that it doesn't go online.

I am confused by your post. Were these friends nearby? Or across the country?

Wipeout is supposedly going to have a bunch of downloadable material. More than will fit on the bundled 32 MB stick. It may be they expect you to acquire it via PC rather than directly on the PSP.

If they were all within range of the same access point it would act as a virtual hub. This offers greater range than ad hoc since two users can both be within signal reach of the AP while beyond each other's range.

Ah, that make sense. But that would still be considered ad hoc rather than infrastructure, right?
