Downgrade your PSP tutorial
Since the original thread was made there has been a lot of questions, problems, and replies that have just gotten lost in the 38 pages that composed that thread. This will aim to be a replacement guide with the addition of the updated information
So let's get started !
Did that sink in ?
Things you need:
2.00 PSP (model #1005 or below)
MPH Downgrader files (located
HERE)
Firmware file for 1.50
USB cable
PC (or Mac)
WinRar
The first and most important requirement is that you have a 2.00 PSP model #1005 or below. If you're PSP is firmware version 1.51 or 1.52, please visit
this thread to upgrade to 2.00 before proceeding.
You also need to remove any UMD you may have in the drive. It isn't a
requirement, but it will be more convenient later on during a reboot of the PSP.
You might have to disable your anti-virus software when downloading, or extracting, the MPH Downgrader files. Some companies have written a definition for the fake downgrader that would brick a PSP, and labeled it as a virus. Please read on.
DOWNGRADER INSTALLATION
First download the MPH Downgrader files and firmware files from your choice of sites. I have included the MPH Downgrader files at the end of this post.
I am not responsible for the other files you download. The MPH Downgrader package that is included in this post is 100% safe, and packaged by myself. You are responsible for finding a 1.50 firmware eboot file. If you don't download it from a reputable source, chances are you could be left with an inoperable PSP.
Once you've downloaded the RAR file included, unpack the files onto your hard drive.
/! PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY /!
Hook your PSP into USB mode and transfer the three files that were included in the RAR file I've provided. Here are where you files should be located: **NOTE** change F:/ to your PSP drive letter.
h.bin - PSP ROOT
index.dat - PSP ROOT
overflow.tif - /PSP/PHOTO/
EBOOT.PBP /PSP/GAME/UPDATE/
Example: (you can also see the example pics I provided)
F:/h.bin
F:/index.dat
F:/PSP/PHOTO/overflow.tif
F:/PSP/GAME/UPDATE/EBOOT.PBP

After you have the files in the proper locations, you are ready to downgrade your PSP firmware to 1.50.
You can disconnect your USB cable from the PSP now.
RUNNING THE DOWNGRADER Please read all the steps before proceeding. After you are comfortable with what the steps are supposed to be, then continue. When running the downgrader, please read one step, perform that step, then continue on to the next step.
If you haven't done so already, please connect your AC adapter to the PSP, and plug the other end into a power outlet. Make sure your PSP is getting power. The PSP power light will be orange if it's getting power. The battery indicator will also be blinking.
Alright, now that we have verified that our PSP has a good power source, let's continue.
First, let's scroll over to the
PHOTO icon and press
CROSS. The PSP will open your photos section, and should crash trying to view the overflow.tif file we placed in /PSP/PHOTO/... earlier. You should see a bunch of random text on the screen. This is perfectly normal, don't panic. Wait about 30 seonds, and hold your PSP power switch all the way up until the PSP powers off. If the PSP doesnt shut off when you hold it up for about 10 seconds, wait about 5 seconds, and try again. If it still hasnt shut off, take out your battery. Your PSP should be off now. Replace the battery, and continue on.
Once the PSP is powered off, wait approx. 1 (one) minute. Then power the PSP back on. Once the PSP is at the XMB (cross media bar), scroll over to the
GAME icon, and press
CROSS. You should see the Update icon, highlight it, and press
CROSS. Follow the instructions for the update.
Once the update is at 99% complete, the PSP will freeze and the PSP will display an error message. Do not panic yet lol. This is normal. Again, hold the power switch up until the PSP powers off. Wait 10-30 seconds, and turn the PSP back on. If you see the error message again, just restart your PSP again. I've never encountered the error message twice, but others have reported it happening to them. Once you've proceeded past the error message, you'll see a "Settings Invalid" error. Just press
CIRCLE to restore the default settings.
Confirm that you now have a 1.50 PSP by checking the System Firmware version. Scroll all the way to the left, scroll down to
System Settings, and press
CROSS. Scroll down to
System Software, and press
CROSS. This will tell you your firmware version.
Enjoy your new 1.50 PSP !
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND WARNINGS- At no time should you remove your memory stick while the activity light is blinking indicating that the memory stick is being accessed.
- Do NOT remove, or insert ,your PSP battery while the AC adapter is providing power to the PSP.
- Once you've started the downgrade process, do NOT turn off the PSP until you are at that step.

I havent tried it, nor will I. If you have success with the file, great. If not, I already warned you.
- You can NOT downgrade from any firmware version other than 2.00.
- All folders involved in this process are in all CAPITAL letters.
- After you have confirmed that you have a 1.50 PSP, you can delete all the downgrade files that you transfered earlier.
