Howdie:
my memory card's directory has a PSP folderthen a few subfolders, i tried to put in music and it worked(techno of course).. then in root directory i made the mp_root/100mnv01 folder as told through several of the same directions in plenty of different sources.

I went to connect.com/psp to download some vidoes( i got most of em lmao) and BC windows98 SUCKS when it comes to PSP USB Connectivitity, i went over to my Linux (mandrake) and it worked fine.

I pu the .mp4, un changed, un renamed files from connect.com/psp into the 100mnv01 folder, eventually having like 10 files in that folder. I went to play the music that i also uploaded into the music directory(under the PSP/Music folder, btw the mp_root is NOT under the PSP folder, i promise its in root directory).. it played fine (only saw title of one of em though), so I figured I'd watch some speedracer!!! (dumb show but classic nevertheless) and it said that there were no movies files!!! WTF! I reformatted, retried, and failed again and again and again, the music works fine, but the movies arent being detected. I have not altered the movies at all!

the full address to the folder where the movies are at is file:/mnt/removable/mp_root/100mnv01 ... I am using Linux but that shouldn't be an issue, the music works fine so why is the movies feature not?

I've looked everywhere, trust me, and havent found a solution and it is irritating me to no end!! Thanks alot in advance for any help!

How did you name the files??

Try M4Vxxxxx.mp4 x being random NUMBERS

i didnt name them, they were already named and i was told not to rename them, it is m4vc00019.mp4... i figured taht c shouldnt be there so i renamed it without the c and it still had no affect.

That c probably shouldn't be there. You're right. I actually have some videos I got from a friend that I can't get to work either. Everything I have converted myself works fine but the others do not show up at all in the PSP menu. I thought maybe I had too many vids on but that's not it. This is starting to piss me off as well. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Well you did help and thanks for that tid bit.. I havent converted anything by my self yet(afraid of messing up quality).. but have you successfully played any of the videos from connect.com/psp ? When I get home today I'll try and convert something, I went to a car show (Hot Import Nights) and got a Drifting 101 DVD maybe I can test my skills with ripping and converting that (i hav a tutorial and programs I found here i believe)... lmao wish me luck and just to have some closure I'll try and reply with the results of converting and then trying that.

No I've not tried any vids from pspconnect. I think I'll do that to see what happens. Good suggestion.

Good luck on the conversions. It's not terribly difficult. Just follow the directions of your tut and you should be fine.

I just DL'd a file from there. If you took out that C you need to replace it with something. The file names have to have 5 numbers or characters. That could be part of your problem. Maybe not. I'll try putting it on mine tonight.

well i did and i just rpelacd the c with a 0... also I downloaded a few clips from the File Swap forum here and still no change!!! Its getting me mad to tell the truth becuase I seem to be doing everything right but something is going wrong! lmao bummer

I forgot you've been running 98. Try XP. I'm actually on a Mac with OSX.3 I dont' really think the OS should have anythign to do with it.

I was able to get the star wars trailer clip that was available here a few weeks ago to work...also I DL'd the south park episode and that worked. Those are the only 2 vids I didn't convert myself that have worked. I've got some others my friend sent me I can try too. I dunno what's up. Very frustrating.
