Hi, I'm john, a noob to the forums. But not a noob to PSPs!

Right, we got the software, encoded the video with the tried and tested settings, we got the screen res divisible by 16px, patched the file with PSPRez, uploaded the file to our newly bought Memory Stick Duo Pro 512Mb, spent ages getting the DVD RIP to a decent size to fit, now the SCREENS BLACK!! file wont play, the time is still. :?

Why oh why?!?!?! Oh and we're using Macs and PCs.

We even tried it on a PSP 1000 and a 1001 (thats Jap and US versions, respectively)

What are we doing wrong?

Is there a set bitrate we need to be sticking to?

Any info whatsoever would be grand, as long as its not pointing to yet another tutorial - we must have read them all by now, trust me!

What programs are you using on the mac?
Try mac the ripper and FFmpegX. I've had no problems at all. Has a PSP preset and you can alter the bitrate if you choose. Default if 300 which is ok. 400 looks really good.

Are you chaning the encoded file names?
Do you have teh file structure set up with the MP_ROOT folder and all that?

I know you don't want to be pointed to another tut. but there's a sticky thread here called DVD to PSP that will tell you exactly what to do. :D

Hi, thanks for the welcome!

We've been using OSEx to RIP and FFmpegX to burn, I reckon it could be a bitrate issue - I think ours has been set to 512 - been using a tut from MSJ .com (wink wink). But, I'll try MacTheRipper. Our last stage is to run it through PSPREZ on the PC - I nearly had it working. done it first time from a WMV but full RIPs are giving us trouble. I'll check the tutorial you're talking about, I haven't seen any on here yet lol

Thanks for the response, good to see other mac users having success! My G4 seems to work better than my mates G5 for transfer to PSP...

No need to run through that PSP rez program. That's probably your problem. FFmpegX produces the perfect file you need. To make a preview file though you'll need altShiva. All that's in that tut. I pointed you to. The res will be set by FFmpegX at 320 x 240 I think but then you can zoom in to fit full screen. My Pirates OTC looks great at 400 bitrate.

I like to try to help the Mac guys bacuase I know I can. I haven't tried any of this on PC so I can't help those guys as much.

BIG TIP: With Mac the ripper you'll want to do a title only rip to keep the.vob's in a single file.
