Both my son and I have PSP's which play homebrew games. I have a selection of games but some of them will not play on mine. They go into the ISO file ok but when I go to play them I get an error message which says:
The game could not be started 80020148.

Can anybody shed any light on this for me.

I am not very techie orientated and I got the psp with the homebrews to keep me busy at work when its quiet but some of the games which the lad plays are my sort of games.

are u sue that they are hbrew? cuseif they are they are supposed to go in the psp/game folder.

what firmware are you running???You just might need to go into recovery mode and run the 1.50 kernel to get them to work..I was getting a similar message when I installed my emu. and well that solved it...

Same question as above^^ Dark ALex has come out with a new update service like the Sony one, so if you are running an older one of his firmwares, update!

If they are ISO/CSO games that do not work you will need to go in to your recovery menu and change the driver to M33 driver (NO UMD) To go to the recovery menu you will have to shut down your PSP. Then hold the R trigger down and turn it on. It should go to the recovery menu. If it just boots up it was in sleep mode then you will have to hold the power button or pull the battery for a second to fully shut it down and try again. Now that your in the recovery menu you will have to turn the UMD Mode to M33 driver (NO UMD) then just exit and you should be good to go. If not you may need to play with the ISO settings in the Advanced Configuration menu. In recovery menu, Go to: Advanced/ then Advanced Configuration. In this menu there is: Plain modules in UMD/ISO try enabling this one and if it don't work, Disable it and try: Execute Boot.Bin in UMD/ISO and enable this one. If that don't work for you try enabling both. One of these combos will work if they are good ISO/CSO. I have helped others and they had said that, "It works on UMD Mode M33 (no UMD) and enabling Plain module in UMD/ISO". Hope this helps, Thanks

im having the same problem but..i cannot get into the recovery menu it keeps loading up the system and says "The game could not be started(80020148)" even when i take the game out it will not go into recovery mode. idk what else to do it seems like ive tried everything

you can install Iso readers like promethus. or maybe your psp's version is low. I also got that problem before. I updated it . then I used custom firmware ( the latest one. )

first what you have to do is enter in recovery. You can use pandora battery all quide how to do you find on forum.
