| Did Sony miss out on the customization of the XMB? Hey guys, I just registered here a few mins ago. I've had a PSP since launch day, and just recently I've found out about the wonderful world of custom firmwares and XMB customization.
I joined because I'm curious to hear what other PSP fans might have to say about my question. Just recently, I've started to see lots of "Theme Packs" being released in various PSP forums and I love all the custom XMB designs people are making. The PSP also showed us a whole new realm of personalization when people found out how to modify the XMB wave function to produce some amazing effects.
Unfortunatelly, these mods require fiddling around with the PSP system itself via the flash0 sector so there is some risk of bricking while doing so. I had a small problem for example when I accessed the flash0 sector with OS X (which creates these files in every folder you use called .ds_store). Well these files are 16kb each, so after a bit of inspection, I filled up the flash and it was hard to get things back to normal.
So I'm just wondering, do you think Sony missed out on a potential outlet for PSP content? (similar to ringtones and wallpapers cellphones have). They could've made a way so that you could place files in the MS and fully customize the XMB as you please, without risking damage to your PSP. They did think about a small aspect of it obviously, by allowing us to use custom wallpapers as we please, but this feature is pale in comparison to the new themes being distributed. |
