Rep Power: 0 | Offical Warning from Sony. On Sony’s official site (Japanese) they have just posted the following in bold, red font::
"CAUTION: This update is only for customers who obtained PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) for Japan which model number is PSP-1000 or PSP-1000 K. Upon completion of preparing, we will announce update information for the other countries/areas customers via SCE Group Web Site or other channels . For theses customers who obtained PSP® in the other countries/areas, please DO NOT update PSP® through this web site." |

Rep Power: 0 | Please stop with this crap..... This is a post (in it's entirety) from the PSP forums. It just about sums up how I feel about this:
"The stupidity on this forum has just about reached an all time high from what I've seen in the last 5 minutes alone. "Oh no, the official Japanese SCEJ site told me not to update" Put it this way, SCEA probably got bombarded with emails and inquiries as to whether or not the 2.0 patch was safe to apply and some moron around here suggested that our PSP's were turned into Japanese models. Well, if they did, then my one in a million Spiderman 2 UMD from launch day wouldn't work now would it? Sorry, try again... your theory has no basis.
The main reason the panic is occuring is because SCEA has yet to announce their own portal of portable tv and offer a link in the browser. When you go to the bookmarks in the PSP browser, there's a link that says PSP. The only two sites that are open at the moment are Japan and Korea. The NA and Europe sites have yet to be either written or launched (probably both).
I'll say it again, when you load that damned update file, it explicitly says (assuming you're in ENGLISH mode) that the securiy measures being installed require you to accept the agreement since it involves some U.S. export restrictions. Yes, that's right, the updater detects your hardware origin and applies the changes based on that. As past experience with 1.51 and 1.52 have indicated, the patch file is the same across the globe. Who would seriously bother writing multiple updaters?
You all know that the PSP has no region encoding for games and programs launched from the game menu (aka updates). Given that, SCE (the umbrella company) definitely had the intentions to release the same file as a global update. It would be incredibly stupid on their part to release a Japan specific version, knowing full well that US users would successfully load the upgrade and apply it.
Furthermore, I as well as many other members on this forum have successfully updated using the 2.0 update and are enjoying the benefits of the browser and h.264 video (not to mention aac audio). IGN and GameSpot have both written articles where their editors report having installed the "UNIVERSAL" patch with no hitches, explaining in detail how to apply them and how nice the features are.
This stupid paranoia frankly annoys me and stands as an eyesore in the forums. "Oooh I'm going to wait for the NA/US version." Fine then, shut up and keep it to yourselves. Seriously why do you insist on trying to make reasonable people who applied the update go paranoid and make them regret their decision? Is it because you're just more jealous and paranoid yourselves? I think that's clearly the case in this situation. You're just afraid to believe that a file released in Japan first will be the same exact one released across the globe in the coming days (read: weeks) and don't have the nerve to install an update that you know full well will operate perfectly on your PSP.
As far as bugs are concerned, if there are any (I have yet to notice anything) then SCE will just release a global 2.01 or higher update. End of story. "
For the entire drama, you can go here: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=psp&message.id=721428&view=by_dat e_ascending&page=1
Let's ALL give this a rest, shall we?!
BTW, yes I upgraded and no I'm not worried. |

Rep Power: 0 | Well... he's right. I agree with Him. Just because Doofy has not updated doesn't mean he can play a role of... "Ha, ha you updated! Your PSP is going to crash!" So YOU didn't update, you still have 1.50, good for you, now place your face in front of your PSP and play your Homebrews! No one here is telling you or nagging to you to update. |
