This same thing happened to me today. I wasn't loading a page. A page was finished loading, and I was done looking at it, so I wanted to see what would happen if I put it to sleep by flicking the power switch up (like you do when in a game, so that it resumes the game).
Next thing I know, the PSP locked up for like 20 seconds, no buttons worked, and then it finally turned off. I turned it back on, and it acted like I held the power switch up because it did a fresh start and loaded my UMD automatically.
Then I tried exiting the game after it loaded, and the 'are you sure' screen popped up, except that it was in Japanese writing (my PSP is a region 1 USA PSP...), and the X and O's were switched. Once I figured out how to exit the game, the PSP restarted again. It came up with an error saying that my system crashed and would return to default settings for the whole PSP. This part was in english, and it let me pick all the starting settings again.
The PSP is fine now, I just have to input all my wireless connection settings again and a few other things :? Oh well, I guess I won't be seeing if I can put it to sleep like this again. This should be a descriptive enough post of this problem. It was just really weird to see Japenesey font without it asking me to switch it.
