That's funny. You know I love Sony and have company loyalty. Just because I disagree with your figure of 500,000 PSP consoles having a dead pixel (based off you opening 5 of them and reading people experiences on the net) doesn't make me a fanboy.
Guessing that the problem is rampant and over 50% from you opening consoles and reading the net is as stupid as me reporting to you that: my friend bought 3 for his househould, all perfect. I bought 2 US and 1 import. 2 US are perfect, import has 1 dead pixel. And another friend of mine has 1 US and 1 import, both perfect. So, from my experiences I can say it's closer to 2%,
it makes no sense to do things this way. Either way, you're never going to get a true number of LCDs that do have dead pixels, but there's no way (repeat: NO WAY) it is going to be 50% or more. That would be suicide for both Sony, and whoever made the LCDs(samsung or sharp).
You simply cannot say "50% of the 1 million consoles have a dead pixel because of the 100 I encountered 50 had a dead pixel." It's just illogical.
Yes it is Sony's responsibility, and from reading the original article it seems they are ready to take the responsibility to exchange consoles with a problem. But, everyone attacks Sony like they should have turned on all 1 million consoles to check for dead pixels, or any other minor problem.
That's not the way that any large business is run. Product testing is done in batches. For example, they'll take a 100 consoles out of 5000 PSP batch. And if there is a certain number of defective products out of the 100 randomly selected, the whole batch (in this case 5000) is replaced.
But since we're talking about Sony here, and since dead pixels TAKE TIME to find, quality control probably isn't that great. So, a few extra dead pixels units could have slipped in. Also, Sony was/is hoping to sell out of the first shipment, probably contributing to more units going out than there should have.
I'm not saying that Sony didn't f up here. I'm just saying there is no way that 500,000 PSP units have dead pixels and a lot of people are overexaggerating the problem. And that the problem isn't as "rampant" as it seems.

And then you blindly support companies that solely exist to take your money.

This is the sole reason ANY business exists
P.S. - In case you're wondering about mine or my friends extra PSP units, the extras are either for collection/selling/brother depending on who you ask.
